Staying Home, Staying Safe and Staying Beautiful

Here at Beauty by Tifini, we’ve always been big supporters about self-love, weekly self-care and in-home skincare. With everything that’s going on, we realize that now more than ever we need to equip you with the tips you need to take care of yourself during this quarantine. Because let’s face it, even if we’re all stuck inside, we want to look good while doing it. We took some time to compile all our favorite self-care rituals into one guide that provides you with the tips and tricks you need to fight stress and stay healthy while staying safe at home.

Tips for Dealing with Stress

When we’re stressed, it shows. Not only in our mood, but also on our skin. That’s because stress causes our bodies to release more cortisol (a stress related hormone) which affects both our body and mind. Some of the biggest effects of increased levels of cortisol include: a weakened immune system, dryness, oil and acne, and redness.

This can cause skin conditions like rosacea and eczema to become inflamed, make your skin’s appearance duller, increase breakouts, cause inflammation and heighten the appearance of dark circles as well as fine lines and wrinkles. It’s no secret that we’re living in some pretty stressful times right now, but the best thing you can do for both your body and your mind is to continue or begin practicing healthy self-care habits. Here are a few daily and weekly rituals to help keep both your body and mind healthy all the time.

Daily Self Care

Drink Hot Water with Lemon

It may sound simple, but drinking lemon water first thing in the morning has be proven to work wonders on the skin. Lemon is a great source of vitamin C, vitamin A, beta-carotene, folate, calcium and potassium. So when you drink it first thing in the morning you’re feeding you skin an important dose of vitamins that help eliminate toxins from your body.

Cold Roll

A cold roll a day keeps the inflammation at bay! Using your cold roller in the morning and at night at the end of your skincare routine is great for relieving stress and showing your skin some extra TLC. Using a stainless steel cold roller, like the ones we have at BBT, helps tighten pores, improve circulation, reduce inflammation and locks in serums for deeper penetration.

Stretch and Meditate

Inhale, exhale and let it flow. Keep your body moving and relieve tension by taking 10-15 minutes a day to do a full body stretch. This will help minimize lower back pain from increased time sitting, increase your flexibility and increase blood flow throughout the body. End each stretching session with a time of meditation and deep breathing to help re-center your mind, slow your heart rate and lower your blood pressure.

Do Your Regular AM+PM Skincare Routine

Yes, that means putting on SPF daily even if you’re inside! Keeping up with your daily skincare regimen is so important for keeping your skin regulated. It helps to remove dirt and oil, while also providing the daily nourishment that your skin needs. It’s important to keep your skin clean, hydrated and protected no matter what.

Go Outside

Some fresh air always helps. Since you put SPF on, it’s safe to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. But don’t overdo it. Sun damage is still the number 1 cause of aging, but 10-20 minutes of sunshine a day does the body good. The natural Vitamin D obtained from the sun plays an important role in regulating your mood and helps ward off depression.

Weekly Self Care

Exfoliate (Face & Body)

Keep your skin soft and smooth. Weekly exfoliation of both your face and body helps to remove dead skin cells that build up naturally on the surface of the skin. This build up can cause the skin to appear dull and ruddy and can also clog pores which causes breakouts. Through regular exfoliation you also stimulate cell regeneration which brings fresh skin cells to the surface to reveal a softer, more glowing complexion.

Give Yourself a Facial

It won’t be the same as going to your favorite aesthetician, but your skin will love you for it all the same. Follow these steps for best results:

1) Start with a dual cleanse to remove any excess dirt and oil and prep your skin for the mask

2) Apply a hydrating serum or mist to keep your skin moist while the mask dries and improve product penetration

3) Set a timer to avoid leaving the mask on too long, longer is not always better

4) Rinse off in the shower with lukewarm water rather than removing with a wash cloth

5) Finish with your favorite moisturizer to lock in hydration.

Take an Essential Oil Bath

Nothing says me time like a relaxing bath. Take some time to decompress before starting a new week by taking a nice warm bath. You can add essential oils like lavender, ylang ylang and sandalwood for extra relaxation effects. These oils help to relax your muscles and calm your mind.

Do a Hair Mask

Bad hair days are the worst. Show your hair some love with a weekly hair mask to help reduce breakage, minimize fizziness, and enjoy shinier, softer hair in-between your regular hair appointments. If you’re new to trying hair masks, one pro tip that will help you get the best results is this: always use a wide tooth comb to make sure you’re apply the mask evenly from root to tip.

Whiten Your Teeth

Coffee and tea lovers, this is a weekly habit that you definitely want to get on board with. Weekly whitening can help to minimize the effects of coffee and tea on your teeth. Especially if professional whitening isn’t in your budget. Consider trying some whitening strips or adding an all-natural whitening technique to your weekly self-care routine to brighten up your smile and boost your confidence.
